Postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the Neuroscience Research Institute (NRI) at UC Santa Barbara. The postdoc will work on collaborative projects between Dr. Ken Kosik (https://ken-kosik.mcdb.ucsb.edu) and Dr. Soojin Yi (https://yilab.eemb.ucsb.edu/). An immediate research goal is to understand the functional diversity of synaptic proteins with deep ancestral roots (some in species before the emergence of the nervous system), using bioinformatics. We are also interested in applying AI-resolved protein folding structures to evolutionary and phylogenetic problems including the evolution of synaptic proteins. The details of the study are flexible and can accommodate postdoctoral candidate’s own research interests. Qualifications include 1) a Ph.D. in evolution, genetics, neuroscience, computer science, statistics, or related field; 2) experience/ability in genomic data analyses (Python/R programming and statistics).
